Avago Technologies, the Singapore-based maker of semiconductors, is near a deal to acquire wireless chipmaker Broadcom Corp., people with knowledge of the matter said.
A formal announcement could be made as soon as Thursday, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the discussions are private. No agreement has been reached and the talks could end without a deal, the people said.
Avago is a top competitor to wireless chipmaker Qorvo, which has corporate offices in Hillsboro and in North Carolina.
The acquisition, if it happens, would be the biggest ever in the semiconductor industry, according to The Wall Street Journal.
