American, US Airways are switching to a single reservations system, a process that has caused problems in other mergers.
US Airways, a big player at Sky Harbor International Airport and throughout greater Phoenix for a decade, will fade into aviation history on Saturday when American Airlines retires the brand two years after the airlines merged.
The merger milestone, timed to the airlines’ tricky overnight switch to a single reservations system, is more than symbolic. For the first time, the airline’s executives say, the new American will be a single airline in the eyes of travelers. No more separate websites, fares, ticket counters and policies. All flights will be American flights.
