Michigan on Wednesday joined a multi-state antitrust lawsuit against six generic drug companies.
The action by Attorney General Bill Schuette against Heritage Pharmaceuticals and five others alleges the drug makers participated in an illegal scheme to reduce competition and manipulate prices of one antibiotic and an oral diabetes medication.
The suit was filed against two industry leaders — Teva and Mylan — as well as four smaller companies, Heritage, Aurobindo, Citron and Mayne.
The cost of both generic drugs has surged in recent years, and the suit alleges that company executives coordinated to fix prices, allocate market share and “otherwise thwart competition,” said a press release from Schuette office.
