US: Cadwalader nabs Sidley’s antitrust co-chair

Cadwalader Wickersham & Taft has hired a mergers and acquisitions pro from Sidley Austin with a background in leading international clients through US enforcement proceedings and litigation to help expand the firm’s antitrust footprint.

Joel Mitnick, a former antitrust trial lawyer with the Federal Trade Commission, was global co-head of Sidley’s antitrust and competition practice. He is joining Cadwalader as a partner in its antitrust group.

At Sidley, Mitnick counseled a broad range of clients across the financial services and other industries on the antitrust aspects of M&A deals, joint ventures, and distribution arrangements.

He said he was attracted to Cadwalader partly by the chance to build out the Wall Street firm’s antitrust practice.

“This was just an opportunity that presented itself that doesn’t come along very often, when you get a firm that is really poised to expand in your area and you have the opportunity to make your own thumbprint in building that area,” Mitnick said.
