Britain is asking regulatory officials to take another look at Twenty-First Century Fox’s bid to purchase the remaining 61% stake of satellite broadcaster Sky that it does not already own.
Britain’s culture ministry said that it has written to the regulator Ofcom seeking new advice on the transaction. Ofcom has previously expressed concerns that the merger will give the Rupert Murdoch family too much power over British media.
Murdoch’s critics have been emboldened by allegations that Fox News ran a story containing fabricated quotes.
Culture Secretary Karen Bradley has said she is inclined to send the deal to the Competition and Markets Authority for further review.
