According to TelecomPaper, 3 Sweden has repeated its criticism of regulator PTS’ spectrum auction. In a blog, the mobile operator stated PTS was accused of poor regard for competition considerations when it came to the 700 MHz spectrum range.
3 Sweden CEO Havel van Drumpt said that the company and others are holding talks with PTS on the matter, but added that Minister of Digitisation Anders Ygeman and Trade Minister Ibrahim Baylan now need to take a serious look at the watchdog’s preparations because of the long-term consequences for the public, businesses, and the economy.
Van Drumpt said that PTS has previously argued that the lower the spectrum cap, the greater the risks that frequencies will not be sold at an economically viable price. This point of view, he said, means that smaller operators have poorer chances of buildilng 5G networks and competing in the market. High licence fees hit network expansion, he said, adding that there are reasons why countries such as Finland have done things differently.
