Spain’s competition regulator, CNMC, has begun proceedings against Schweppes SA over alleged anticompetitive behaviour involving a series of agreements struck with independent distributors across Spain.
The agreements in question were made to restrict the distribution and sale of Schweppes brand products that had not been manufactured by the local Schweppes subsidiary, thus limiting parallel imports of their products.
The conducts under scrutiny were uncovered from a complaint presented before the CNMC, which allowed for an investigation to be started, producing enough preliminary evidence to justify the sanctioning proceedings.
