Members of the US House of Representatives committee on China’s Communist Party expressed concern and requested information regarding reports of censorship by TikTok, a Chinese-owned short video app. The censorship allegedly targeted an account that posted content related the pro-democracy Hong Kong tycoon Jimmy Lai, as well as other decisions related content moderation.

Representative Mike Gallagher and 12 other Republican lawmakers have requested more details from TikTok CEO Show Zi Chew regarding the company’s content moderation policies and practices.
The Acton Institute, based in Michigan, reported that their TikTok account was suspended for sharing content related to the Lai film. The account was reportedly restored after media coverage, but TikTok has not yet provided a statement.
