Mexican Regulator Accuses Fuel Company Of Breaking Antitrust Law

Mexico’s competition watchdog Cofece has accused an unspecified player in the fuel sale, storage, and transport business of potential anti-competitive practices.

The company has now been called to present a defense before the regulator, Cofece stated.

In particular, the accusation stems from Cofece’s belief that the company violated Mexico’s federal competition law (LFCE) by establishing different prices or purchase conditions for different buyers or suppliers.

Cofece pointed out the accusation is the starting point for a trial-like procedure helmed by its technical department, in which the accused firm will be obliged to dispute the accusations and provide new evidence. Finally, a ruling will be issued by Cofece’s commissioner board.
