Mexican COFECE Commissioner Dies

Mexican competition regulator COFECE was saddened to announce that Commissioner Pérez Valdespin’s passed away early on Thursday, February 4, in Mexico City.

He will be remembered by those who worked with him as an outstanding professional and advocate of the importance of competition policy in improving society’s welfare. COFECE has lost a strong and experienced voice that supports its important independent and autonomous mandate to push for ever more efficient markets; Mexico has lost a righteous public servant amid these troublesome times.

For those of us who knew him personally, our hearts go out to his wife and two children.

Pérez Valdespín was one of the first COFECE Commissioners to be appointed during the current administration, a position he held since March 1, 2019 and would have retained until 2028.
