India: Regulator approves Vodafone’s US$23b merger

The Competition Commission of India has given its approval for the merger of Vodafone Group Plc’s India unit with Idea Cellular for US$23 billion.

The merger to create India’s largest telecom company was agreed to in March of this year, but the companies have has been waiting for regulators’ approval.

The merger was triggered by the entry of Reliance Jio to the Indian telecom industry which created a price war.
