Egypt: Antitrust regulator refers Speranza chief to prosecution

Egypt’s consumer protection authority (CPA) referred Hassan Aboul Fotouh, the head of the board of directors for Aboul Fotouh Automotives, to the public prosecutor following a consumer complaint.

The distributor of Chinese brand Speranza failed to replace a malfunctioned motor in a consumer’s car despite the authority’s decision in August, reported official news agency MENA on Thursday.

Article 8 of law number 67 for the year 2006, gives the CPA the authority to make binding rulings in cases of dispute over the product condition, head of the antitrust watchdog, Atef Yaqoub, was quoted by MENA as saying.
