ChatGPT May Operate In Italy If They Comply With Data Watchdog

The Italian data protection agency issued a list of requests on Wednesday to address its apprehensions about ChatGPT and enable the chatbot service operated by OpenAI to recommence in the nation.

OpenAI, which is supported by Microsoft Corp, suspended ChatGPT in Italy nearly two weeks ago due an investigation into a possible violation of privacy regulations by the authority known as Garante, which had temporarily restricted the processing of personal data.

On Wednesday, Garante issued a set of demands that must be fulfilled by the end of this month.

“Only in this case.. the authority will suspend the provisional restrictions on the use of the data of Italian users … and ChatGPT will once again become accessible in Italy,” it said.

Italy was the first western European country to curb ChatGPT, but its rapid development has attracted attention from lawmakers and regulators in several countries.
