Canadian regulators have no objections to the planned merger of the H.J. Heinz Co. and Kraft Foods Group.
The Canadian Competition Bureau has issued a “no action” letter indicating that it won’t oppose the deal, according to a joint announcement from Pittsburgh-based Heinz and Northfield, Ill.-based Kraft this afternoon.
Earlier this week, the companies had said US regulators had allowed a required Hart-Scott-Rodino antitrust waiting period to pass without raising concerns.
Now they just need Kraft shareholders to approve the deal that would create a single food-and-beverage company with about $28 billion in annual revenue. If Kraft shareholders OK the merger on July 1, the new company would be called Kraft Heinz Co.
