Manish Agarwal

Manish Agarwal is a Research Fellow in the Centre for Regulation and Market Analysis (CRMA) at University of South Australia (UniSA). He is currently assisting in the CRMA's project on the history of cartels in Australia in the 20th century and on CRMA's contract research projects.

His PhD thesis entitled, 'The Political Economy of Cross-Border Merger Regulation', was undertaken at UniSA under the supervision of Professors David Round and Martin Shanahan, and was examined by Professor Thomas Ross of the Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia, and Professor Ping Lin, Chair Professor at Lingnan University of Hong Kong, and Adjunct Professor at Shandong University in China.

He holds MA (Economics) and MPhil (Economics) degrees from the Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi, India. His MPhil thesis entitled, 'Analyses of Mergers in India', was supervised by Professor Aditya Bhattacharjea.

His career has included working at the CUTS Centre for Competition, Investment & Economic Regulation in Jaipur, India and at the Centre for Good Governance, State Government of Andhra Pradesh, India. He has been involved in research projects undertaken for government and non-government supported agencies such as the Government of India, the State Government of Andhra Pradesh (India), the British High Commission in New Delhi, the UK Department for International Development, Canada's International Development Research Centre, the Agence Francaise De Developpement in Paris and the National Stock Exchange of India. The research at international, regional, national and sub-national levels primarily involved analysis in competition policy, regulatory issues and economic governance, and their interface with the functioning of markets and market agents.

Manish's broad research interests include competition policy and law, merger regulation and economic regulation. Manish has authored/co-authored papers in peer-reviewed journals on the topics of mergers and acquisitions, merger regulation, insider trading, cartels, and auditing and accounting services market. He has refereed papers for the Journal of Corporate Finance and the Review of Industrial Organization.
