Kazuyuki Furuya is Chairman of the Japan Fair Trade Commission. After graduating from the University of Tokyo, he joined the Ministry of Finance (“the MOF”) in 1978. He has served in various important positions in the MOF and accumulated distinct experiences, especially in the budget and tax policy arena, including as Director-General of the Tax Bureau and Commissioner of the National Tax Agency. After serving as Assistant Chief Cabinet Secretary from 2013 to 2020, he took the current position in September 2020.
