Joseph Angland has practised competition law for over 40 years, serving as first chair on numerous large litigations, and advising on mergers and other transactions, as well as on a myriad of competition issues. He was a Partner in several international law firms: White & Case LLP, where he co-chaired the New York competition practice; Heller Ehrman, where he chaired the New York competition practice; and Dewey Ballantine, where he chaired the worldwide competition practice. Joseph served as Chair of the American Bar Association’s Antitrust Section—the world’s largest association of competition lawyers and economists, with over 9,000 members. He was the principal Editor of Antitrust Law Developments, the Section’s treatise on United States antitrust law, and has authored or edited over 50 antitrust publications. He also served on the Section’s council and as the officer in charge of the Section’s programmes and committees. Joseph regularly lectures on both substantive competition issues and litigation techniques. He has served as an Adviser to the International Competition Network.
Joseph has a substantial background in economics, having received a BS in economics from MIT, where he took numerous graduate economics courses while pursuing that undergraduate degree. His work on antitrust litigations often required him to deal with experts in economics in general and econometrics in particular. Joseph has been a guest lecturer on competition issues at Fordham Law School and has served as an Editor of Competition Policy International.
Joseph has been ranked among the leading competition lawyers in the USA and the world by Global Competition Review, Chambers, Practical Law, Best Lawyers, Who’s Who Legal, Super Lawyers, and other publications. He has also been named as one of 500 outstanding trial lawyers in the USA and one of the top 100 lawyers in all disciplines in New York City.
