Joh Sung Wook was appointed as chairperson of the Korea Fair Trade Commission (KFTC) in September 2019. Before joining the KFTC, she served as a professor at Seoul National University Business School. She evaluated and advised on government policies regarding competition, corporate governance and chaebols while working for the Korea Development Institute from 1997 to 2003. She also served as a commissioner for the Securities and Futures Commission under the Financial Services Commission and as a member of the Advisory Committee of Competition Policy under the KFTC.
She graduated from Seoul National University, Korea (BA, Economics) and Harvard University, USA (PhD, Economics). She was a visiting scholar at the International Monetary Fund in 2008 and a visiting research fellow at the Development Bank of Japan in 2004.
