Dr. Jet Deng, co-chair of Dentons China Competition and Antitrust practice, is an experienced lawyer specialized in antitrust practice, data/privacy protection, and dispute resolution.
As an antitrust lawyer with extensive hands-on experience, Dr. Deng has handled an enormous amount of antitrust filings for domestic and cross-border M&A transactions and received swift and satisfying results. Dr. Deng has represented a number of multinational and domestic corporations to cope with investigations on monopoly agreements and abuse of dominance brought by Chinese anti-monopoly law enforcement authorities. He has abundant practice experience regarding complex antitrust civil litigations such as abuse of IP rights. Furthermore, Dr. Deng has provided legal advice on antitrust risks for multiple commercial transactions and has assisted a multitude of large multinational corporations, SOEs, private domestic companies and industry associations in establishing antitrust compliance systems.
Since as early as 2004, Dr. Deng has been participating in China’s antitrust legislation and providing domestic and foreign clients with legal service. Dr. Deng has been repeatedly interviewed by relevant media including CCTV, China National Radio and Xinhua News Agency. He has published dozens of Chinese and English antitrust treatises on publications including Law Science Magazine, Social Sciences, China Business Law Journal and CPI Antitrust Column, and has published three antitrust books with Law Press.
In 2012, Mr. Deng began to engage in the cybersecurity and data protection legal practice. He has been paying close attention to China’s data protection legislation for many years. Based on a deep understanding of China’s cybersecurity, data and privacy protection legal system, he has advised numerous domestic and foreign clients on establishing compliance systems, designing business models, and coping with administrative investigations and civil litigations. He has also assisted companies in solving problems involving collection, processing, privacy protection, and cross-border transfer of client and employee information on many occasions.
Dr. Deng was recognized by Chambers & Partners as one of the “Leading Lawyers for Antitrust Practice in Asia-Pacific” for seven consecutive years (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 & 2020), and was recognized as “China’s top antitrust lawyer” by Global Competition Review, China Business Law Journal, IFLR 1000, Asialaw, etc. Dr. Deng is a legal associate of the Competition and Regulation European Summer School. He is also an external research supervisor of graduate students at UIBE and Beijing Foreign Studies University, and a researcher of the Competition Law and Industrial Development Research Center at Jinan University.
