Dr Hans W. Friederiszick is a Research Fellow at ESMT Berlin and a Director and founder of E.CA Economics, one of the global top 20 economic antitrust consultancies. He was a member of the first Chief Economist Team of DG COMP (2003 to 2006). His interests lie in the fields of applied microeconomics and industrial organization, with a specialization in competition law&economics.
During his time at the Commission, he was one of the key contributors to the reform of the European state aid control system (“State Aid Action Plan”) and, more broadly, to the refined economic approach in European antitrust enforcement. Since then, he pushed the limits of economic analysis and its application within numerous competition cases, like supporting the parties in the multibillion merger between Lafarge and Holcim, forming a global number one in the cement industry, and being the expert in several multijurisdictional cartel litigation cases, including litigation in the global air cargo matter.
With more than 20 years of experience in the competition economics field, he is considered, according to WWL’s 2019 client survey, by far the best economist in Germany and the most sought-after. He has been named in Global Competition Review’s Who’s Who as one of the field’s leading competition economists and thought leader.
