Brent is a Sydney solicitor specializing in trade practices and competition law. Over the past 15 years, he has acted in trade practices matters for leading Australian corporations and regulators in Australia and New Zealand. He has advised on numerous issues of price fixing and other cartel conduct, exclusionary provisions, joint venture arrangements, exceptions and defenses, sanctions and compliance and liability control programs.
Brent was a professor of law at Sydney University from 1985 to 1995 and a partner of Gilbert + Tobin from 1995-2003. His publications include: "Corporations, Crime and Accountability" (with John Braithwaite, Cambridge University Press, 1993), "The Impact of Publicity on Corporate Offenders" (with John Braithwaite, State University of New York Press,1983), and "Australian Cartel Regulation "(with Caron Beaton-Wells, Cambridge University Press, February 2011).
