Alessandra Tonazzi has been Head of the International Affairs Unit at the Italian Competition Authority (ICA), since May 2012. She had previously worked as Senior Competition Policy Expert in the Unit since November 2005. Her present role involves representation of the ICA in international fora such as the OECD, the ICN and the UNCTAD and the promotion of international cooperation with other competition agencies through multilateral organizations and bilateral agreements.
In particular, she co-chairs the ICN Merger Working Group, has been co-chairing the Operational Framework Working Group on behalf of the ICA since 2010 and coordinates the ICA's work in the ICN Working Groups. From October 2012 to April 2013 she was seconded to the Competition Division of the OECD.
Prior to the appointment to her current position, she also served as advisor to one of the Authority's Commissioners providing analysis on competition policy issues and cases and previously spent six years working as case handler in the Media and Telecommunication Investigating Directorate of the Authority. She authored several articles on antitrust issues. She regularly speaks at national and international conferences on competition law and policy.
