Qantas International CEO Gareth Evans, speaking at the carriers’ 2015 investor day, said he believes China Eastern Airlines is the right partner for the carrier in China, adding: “We were disappointed with the ACCC’s preliminary decision .” Mr Evans explained: “We’re working very hard with the ACCC, we’re very confident. There’s been over 20 submissions including by very powerful government organisations since the decision.”
Mr Evans added: “We hope the ACCC, with the fullness of time, will step back and see it as the Australia-China market not the Sydney-Shanghai market which is a very narrow scope that they’ve driven.”
