UK: CMA Panel appointments confirmed

On Thursday, September 27, Business Secretary Greg Clark confirmed two appointments to the Competition and Markets Authority’s (CMA) panel.

Martin Coleman has been appointed as one of four Inquiry Chairs and as Panel Chair. He will also continue in his current roles as a non-executive director of the CMA board, as a Deputy Chair for the Office for Students—the regulator for higher education in England—and as a member of the CMA Remuneration Committee.

As Inquiry Chair, he will be responsible for chairing groups of CMA panel members making decisions on Phase 2 merger inquiries, market investigations, and regulatory appeals.

In his position as Panel Chair, replacing former Chair Anne Lambert, Coleman will support the effective operation of the inquiry process, including appointing members to inquiry panels.

Recently appointed panel member and non-executive director, Kristin Baker was also confirmed by Secretary Clark as another Inquiry Chair for the CMA.
