Two Romanian IT companies have received cumulative €1.75 million (US$2.06 million) fine for bid rigging public auctions. Siveco Romania and Intrarom were fine €1.2 million (US$1.41 million) and €465,000 (US$546,426) respectively for rigging the auction for the €12 million (US$14.1 million) contract to develop the IT system for the country’s Agency for Payments and Invervention for Agriculture in 2008.
The Court of Auditors provided information that initiated an investigation into four IT companies, but the nation’s antitrust authority could not find conclusive evidence against the two other suspected participants, IBM Romania and Teamnet International.
Romania’s Competition Council said, “During the investigation, the Competition Council has found evidence of the agreement between the two companies. Intrarom participated only formally in the tender in order to ensure the number of bidders, but without getting into real competition with Siveco Romania.”
