Marta Wosińska, the head economist at the Federal Trade Commission resigned unexpectedly on Wednesday, according to several people with direct knowledge of the matter and a memo sent by FTC Chair Lina Khan and seen by The Information.
The reason for her departure couldn’t be learned. Wosińska was brought on by then Acting Chairwoman Rebecca Kelly Slaughter in April 2021.
Dr. Wosińska joined the agency from the Duke-Margolis Center for Health Policy at Duke University, where she is a Consulting Professor and serves as the Deputy Director for Policy.
Previously, she was Chief Healthcare Economist in the HHS Office of Inspector General after serving as the Director for Economics Staff at the FDA Center for Drug Evaluation and Research.
Wosińska has been an Assistant Professor of Marketing at the Harvard Business School and Visiting Assistant Professor at the Columbia Business School. She has a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California at Berkeley and a B.S. from Arizona State University.
