Carol Sipperly has been named acting deputy assistant attorney general for antitrust with oversight for civil and criminal antitrust litigation.
Carol Sipperly will serve as acting deputy assistant attorney general in DOJ’s antitrust division, making her a top adviser to the division’s leader, Jonathan Kanter, who has vowed to toughen the department’s efforts against anti-competitive corporate behavior, reported Law.com
Sipperly has worked in the antitrust division for about two years, where she has helped lead the division’s criminal litigation efforts and worked on price-fixing and bid-rigging cases, an area of growing focus for the division.
She began her career as a federal prosecutor in the Southern District of New York where she led the tax evasion prosecution of professional baseball star Daryl Strawberry in 1995. She was also involved in the case of notorious mobster John Gotti, the powerful boss of the Gambino crime family.
