Mexico: First round of mid-term changes at top of Competition Authority

Mexico’s two main competition regulators, the Federal Competition Commission (COFECE) and the Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT) have released calls for applicants to the post of Commissioner at their agencies, marking the first top-level changes at both agencies since their 2013 reform. The terms for each position are publicly available through Mexico’s Official Gazette, (Diario Oficial de la Federación, DOF) and the Evaluation Committee’s own webpage.

Once the evaluation and verification process is complete, the commission presided by Mr. Eduardo Sojo Garza Aldape, head of INEGI, and fellow members Mrs. Sylvia Schmelkes del Valle, from the National Institute for the Evaluation of Education (INEE) and Mr. Agustín Carstens Carstens, head of the Bank of Mexico, will present the Executive with a list of between 3 and 5 suitable candidates.

Applications for the position will be received between August 28 and September 11, through the Committee’s dedicated website. Applicants will have until September 18 to present the required documentation.
