Uber Technologies Inc.’s top lobbyist in Europe plans to exit the company after just a year and a half on the job, leaving the car-hailing company without a chief architect of its strategy in the face of regulatory obstacles across the region.
Mark MacGann said last week that he will leave his role as Uber’s head of public policy for Europe, the Middle East and Africa to work with European venture-capital firms. He said he would “remain fully” in his role with Uber until the end of January.
“It’s hard to leave what is unquestionably the most exciting enterprise of our generation,” Mr. MacGann said, adding that the job has been by parts “exhilarating, exhausting, frustrating, thrilling and a true privilege.”
A spokesman for Uber said the departure was Mr. MacGann’s own decision. David Plouffe, Uber’s global head of policy, described Mr. MacGann as a “terrific advocate for Uber on three continents in a challenging environment.”
