Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba has denied accusations from competitor JD.com that it broke market regulations and obstructed competition, Xinhua News Agency reported.
JD.com, China’s second largest e-retailer, filed a complaint on Monday to the country’s antitrust regulator, claiming Alibaba was “forcing merchants” to choose to deal exclusively with one e-commerce site during promotional activities ahead of the country’s Singles’ Day online shopping event on November 11.
A State Administration for Industry and Commerce regulation, in effect since October 1, prohibits e-commerce platforms from barring merchants from cross-platform participation.
Alibaba responded by saying they welcome competition and that JD is panicking because they provide a superior experience for users.
