Italy: Sky and 3 Italia fined for consumer rights violations

Italy’s antitrust and competition watchdog AGCM has fined Sky Italia and 3 Italia a total of EUR 100,000 each for violations of new consumer rights regulations. Specifically, the telesales procedures adopted by the two companies were deemed to have breached the requirements set out in the consumer code regarding the conclusion of contracts by phone.

The watchdog ruled that Sky Italia and 3 Italia had failed to provide consumers with sufficient information to make an informed decision and failed to offer them the possibility of receiving the transcript of the telephone conversation on a “durable medium”, such as an e-mail, USB stick, CD or DVD.
