Russia’s Federal Antimonopoly Service has blocked Norilsk-based Taimyr Airlinesfrom acquiring a 47.8% share in Arkhangelsk-based Nordavia Airline.
FAS said in a statement that the deal could lead to competition restriction, which would give Taimyr a dominant position on several regional routes, including Arkhangelsk-Naryan-Mar and Murmansk-Arkhangelsk.
FAS also pointed out that Norilsk Airport is also a member of Norilsk Nickel. The antitrust authorities also said a further combination of airport and airline business could lead to competition restrictions.
