EU Commission OKs Newly Created Joint Venture By Unilabs & Medbase

The European Commission has approved, under the EU Merger Regulation, the acquisition of joint control over a newly created joint venture by Unilabs Holding AB (Unilabs) of Sweden and Medbase AG of Switzerland.

The joint venture will be active in the provision of medical laboratory diagnostics services exclusively in Switzerland and predominantly in Eastern Switzerland. Unilabs provides bio-medical testing services, medical imaging services, reproductive medicine services, and drug development services in a number of European countries. Medbase is active in the provision of medical and therapeutic services exclusively in Switzerland.

The Commission concluded that the proposed acquisition would raise no competition concerns given that the joint venture has no actual or foreseen activities within the European Economic Area.
